Does Turnitin detect AI?

Hey everyone, so honestly i'm posting just because I really don’t know who else to ask this and this topic or you can say question is making me confused. Like I wanna know everything in detail and clearly explained. So let me ask it.

So basically I am a college student, just a normal guy trying to attend classes. I am also doing part time job. My teachers are so silly like they keep giving us assignments and assignments. I try my best to make assignments as best as possible just for the sake of grades. I only knew Turnitin as a plagiarism detector. But a few days ago, a teacher told us it can detect AI as well. This is where confusion started for me. 

Like although I don’t use AI for my assignments but I try my best to make my assignment perfect and flawless. I reread it, checking and fixing grammar mistakes. I go through articles to explain my ideas and examples better. So you can say my assignments look perfect in every aspect.

So I wanted to ask in simple words does Turnitin detect AI? or it just detect perfection and computerized writing? Does it really know when something is written by AI or is it just guessing? Can it make mistakes? Has anyone here been flagged even though they wrote everything themselves? Also what if it happens, do teacher believe or listen you?

I just want you guys to understand what im dealing with so I can stop overthinking stuff for every sentence I write. Please share your experience if anyone of you have regarding this either as a student or teacher. Bundle of thanks!
